Prof. Emilio C. Viano:

Prof. Emilio C. Viano, is professor of Justice, Law, and Society in the School of Public Affairs and Adjunct Professor of Law, Washington College of Law. He has earned a Ph.D. in Sociology of Law at New York University; a LL.B. (College of Law of England & Wales/OU); three LL.M. degrees (Leicester University UK and Washington College of Law) and other graduate degrees. He researches international and comparative law, criminology and victimology. Prof. Viano serves as an expert advisor to the United Nations Office of Drug and Crime Prevention, the Directorate of Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe, and various other governmental and non-governmental organizations. He is also an expert in international terrorism and security issues, transnational and organized crime, and crime victim-related issues. Prof. Viano is an authority on legislative crime reform, international crime prevention, drug trafficking, political and financial corruption, and criminal law trends. He is the author of several books, including Transnational Organized Crime: Myth, Power, and Profit, and countless articles. He is member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Criminology and of the International Association of Penal Law; voting member of the International Penal & Penitentiary Foundation; member of the International Committee to Establish a U.N. World Security University and of the High Level Expert Committee of the U.N. on Crime Prevention & Criminal Justice. Prof. Viano has received several international awards.
